9078 |The Mosaika Method

Suzanne Spahi | Montreal, Canada

Spahi, the owner of Mosaikashop, a mosaic

school located in Montreal, will teach the

methods associated with the techniques

used by Mosaika, an art mosaic fabrication

company. These methods employ a

combination of direct and indirect methods

to produce beautifully rich mosaic works.

The course is based on Spahi’s masterly skill

of teaching the precise technique of cutting

ceramic tiles, smalti (Italian glass), and other

vitreous glass to create the most intricate and

detailed mosaics. History of mosaics, various

cutting and placement methods, installation

practices, grouting, and finishing a complete

mosaic work will be covered. Students will

create an 8- by 8-inch mosaic with individual

guidance given. Students should submit their

design to Spahi prior to the workshop so that

she can help students select their colors and materials in advance.

Includes some materials; students will need to purchase tile/glass/

smalti from the instructor or other sources. See SSA website for a

list of materials. For more information visit Spahi’s website www.
