I would be honored to be invited to your city!

In recent years I have traveled extensively, especially in Italy exhibiting my miniature mosaic rugs. That has lead me to be invited to teach my method and to tell my story all around the world.

I propose my visit in 2 parts.

Part 1 The presentation: Every Camel Tells A Story and/or Every Rug Tells A Story. I tell my little story with a powerpoint presentation of how I got into doing oriental rugs in miniature mosaic and then realizing that every one of these rugs does tell a story! This part is open to all.

Part 2: The workshop: you will learn the fine art of creating miniature mosaics using a mix of Italian, Mexican, and vintage smalti, and millefiori. You will learn the exact the technique I use in the making of my oriental rugs.  The design used for the learning process will be according to the charming and whimsical works of Hundertwasser.

You will make a small decorative mosaic measuring 5X7inches using the”Mosaika Method’ from Mosaikashop’s sister company Mosaika mosaika.com . I teach how to work on a temporary support and the mosaic requires no grouting. The challenge of this workshop is the cutting of the small pieces as small as 3mm and I will explain how to combine these pieces with bigger ones to bring balance to the work visually. The last day of the class students will learn the delicate process of transferring the mosaic onto the wood surface and I will explain the colored glue recipe. Mastering this transfer process took me 5 years to master! It is quite a story!

I am very meticulous in my teaching, and students will be individually guided constantly on the working method. I pass on all my little tricks of the trade from my 17 years in teaching.

About the designs: The subject is based on the works of Hundertwasser, the design pattern you get will be a surprise! Each student will be given a different one as a kit. Of course, you are most welcome to trade with you colleagues.

Everybody asks me: Why don’t we do a rug detail?

Answer: Time restraint. The project would have to be bigger to show the feel and detail of an oriental rug.

Come prepared, you need:

-Patience, but as of the second day you will find the process very meditative.

-A quiet atmosphere for concentration, it is required when working small and especially because I am keen on giving the utmost individual attention. I ask that chatting be kept to a minimum.

Included in the class fee:

Smalti: aprox 350gr

Substrate: 5”x7″

Adhesives and colorants

Not included:

24K gold smalti, but I encourage you to bring any smalti you have.

Students will need to bring:

Mosaic wheeled nippers

Tea towel

Mosaic tweezers

Three Day Workshop Price:

According to my host as it depends what city I will have to travel to.   I can give 1 or 2 workshops.  I greatly appreciate to be housed and fed if possible. Contact me: suzanne@mosaikashop.com

Timings: 3 or 4 days from 10am to 4pm or according to your choice, includes break for lunch.

Presentation: 2 hours, I prefer present it in the evening or the daytime before the day of the class.

Je serais honorée d’être invitée dans votre ville!

Ces dernières années j’ai beaucoup voyagé, spécialement en Italie, afin d’y exposer mes tapis en mosaïque miniature. Ça m’a amenée à être invitée à travers le monde pour enseigner ma méthode et raconter mon histoire.

Je propose 2 volets à ma visite:

1ère partie, la présentation: “Chaque chameau raconte une histoire et/ou chaque tapis raconte une histoire”. Je raconte ma petite histoire aidée d’un document PowerPoint, j’explique comment j’en suis venue à créer des tapis orientaux en mosaïque miniature et j’ai réalisé que chacun d’eux raconte une histoire! Ouvert à tous.

2e partie, l’atelier: vous y apprendrez l’art raffiné de la mosaïque miniature et utiliserez des smalti italiens, mexicains, “vintage” et des millefiori. Vous y apprendrez la technique exacte que j’utilise pour créer mes tapis orientaux. Les dessins de base utilisés seront tirés de l’œuvre charmante et fantaisiste d’Hundertwasser.

Vous réaliserez une œuvre mesurant environ 13x 18cm en utilisant la “méthode Mosaïka”, compagnie sœur de Mosaïkashop. mosaika.com. J’enseigne comment travailler sur un support temporaire et n’utiliserai pas de coulis. Le grand défi de cet atelier est d’apprendre à couper des smalti aussi petits que 3mm et j’expliquerai comment combiner ces petites pièces avec de plus grosses afin de créer un équilibre visuel. Le dernier jour, les étudiants apprendront la tâche délicate de transférer leur œuvre sur le support de bois et j’expliquerai la recette de la colle colorée. Ça m’a pris 5 ans à maîtriser cette technique! Toute une histoire!

Mon enseignement est très précis et je guide constamment et individuellement la technique de mes étudiants. Je transmets tous mes petits trucs du métier acquis depuis les 17 ans que j’enseigne.

À propos des dessins: tout est basé sur l’œuvre d’Hundertwasser. Le dessin que vous recevrez sera une surprise! Chaque étudiant en recevra un différent dans un kit. Évidemment, les échanges sont permis entre vous.

Tout le monde me demande: Pourquoi ne fait-on pas un détail de tapis?

Réponse: Le temps! Le projet devrait être beaucoup plus grand afin de montrer la sensation et le détail d’un tapis oriental.

Venez préparé. Vous aurez besoin de

-La patience, mais dès le deuxième jour vous trouverez que c’est un travail très méditatif.

-La tranquillité. Requise pour la concentration lorsqu’on travaille en si petit et spécialement parce que je fait un suivi continuel avec les étudiants, je demande à ce que le bavardage soit réduit au minimum
