Mosaikashop Nomad, in collaboration with Sabina Giuntinelli, (graduate from the Mosaic School of Spilimbergo) is proud to propose you a mosaic workshop in Pontremoli with 3 private tours: Pontremoli, 5 Terre and Carrara organized with Sigeric Tours.

Mosaikashop Nomad, in collaborazione con Sabina Giuntinelli (diplomata alla Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli di Spilimbergo), è orgogliosa di presentarvi un workshop di mosaico a Pontremoli, con tre tour privati: Pontremoli, 5 Terre e Carrara organizzati con Sigeric Tours.

The mosaic workshop theme will be a tribute to the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser famous for his colourful and lively paintings, tapestries and architecture!

The workshop will consist of 4 full days for a total of 34 hours. Using the hammer and hardie (and Sabina will be there to cut you some if you’re not too familiar with the hammer), students will have special access to unique vintage Bisazza mosaic smalti materials from Sabina’s impressive treasured personal collection! Just perfect for a Hundertwasser themed mosaic!

Il tema del corso di mosaico sarà un omaggio all’artista austriaco Friedensreich Hundertwasser, famoso sia per i suoi coloratissimi dipinti e arazzi che per i fantasiosi interventi architettonici.

Il workshop si svolgerà durante quattro interi giorni di lavoro per un totale di 34 ore. Usando martellina e tagliolo (Sabina sarà pronta a pretagliare i materiali per chi non fosse a suo agio con la martellina), gli studenti avranno la possibilità di usare degli speciali materiali Bisazza fuori produzione, un piccolo tesoro vintage dalla estesa collezione personale di Sabina! Perfetti per un mosaico a tema Hundertwasser!

Sabina will teach you the Spilimbergo dynamic method of using smalti and murrine to create a whimsical interpretation and unique rendering of a Hundertwasser work. You will have a wide selection of designs suggested by Sabina choosen specifically for this workshop.

The mosaic will measure 35 X 25 cm.

Sabina is delighted to propose to you an additional 4 hour intensive workshop on colour theory. During the workshop you will learn about the three fundamental components of colour and about the theory of mixing and juxtaposing them. There will be explicative slides, printed notes to bring home, and practical exercises. The notions can then be applied during the mosaic course, playing with the wide range of materials available.

Sabina è felice di proporvi un breve corso intensivo di Teoria del Colore di ulteriori 4h. Durante il workshop imparerete quali sono i tre componenti fondamentali del colore e la teoria su come mischiarli e contrapporli. Ci saranno slide esplicative, una dispensa a colori ed esercizi pratici. Le nozioni imparate potranno poi essere applicate durante il corso di mosaico, giocando con l’ampia scelta di materiali a disposizione.

Spaces are limited!

We will welcome a maximum of 10 students and we need a minimum 4 students to run this workshop with the tours.

At the end of the tour students are free to depart or stay according to their own means.

Suggestion:

You may spend one night in Carrara then depart the next day or go directly to Pietrasanta and spend one night there.

Pietrasanta is just a 10 minute train ride from Carrara and is alive with local art galleries, bars, shops and people during the evening! Whereas Carrara is not!

Go directly to Pisa (after the day tour of Carrara) where there are many beautiful sights to see too.

A minimum full day is enough to see the main sites there.

Suggested Airport arrival and departure:

Pisa International Airport!

From there, you can easily take the train to Pontremoli.

Important: make sure your passport is valid for entry to Italy and/or have the necessary visa, if your type of passport requires it for entry in Italy.

Posti limitati!

Potremo ospitare un massimo di 10 studenti e attiveremo il corso con un minimo di 4 partecipanti.

Alla fine del tour di carrara iul Sabato 20 Maggio i partecipanti potranno partire o proseguire con ulteriori escursioni in zona secondo i loro personali programmi.

Per esempio:

Potresti dormire una notte a Carrara e partire il giorno dopo, oppure andare direttamente a Pietrasanta e passare la notte là.

Pietrasanta è solo a 10 minuti di treno da Carrara e offre gallerie di arte locale, negozi e bar con molta vita serale! Tutto questo non lo troverai invece a Carrara.

Oppure:

Finito il tour di Carrara potresti andare direttamente a Pisa dove troverai molti luoghi belli da visitare. Si raccomanda almeno un giorno intero per vedere le cose principali a Pisa.

Se venite in aereo l’aeroporto suggerito per partenza e arrivo é Pisa International Airport.

Da lì puoi facilmente raggiungere Pontremoli in treno.

Importante: se venite dall’estero si raccomanda di controllare che il vostro passaporto o documento di identità sia valido per l’ingresso in Italia, e di ottenere eventualmente i permessi o visti richiesti per l’ingresso qualora fossero necessari dal vostro paese di provenienza.

Transportation fare to and from Pontremoli are NOT included. At the airport in Pisa, you can take a direct short train ride named ‘Pisamover’ directly to Pisa Central train station and from there you can buy your ticket to Pontremoli using the user-friendly ticket vending machine or at the ticket office.

Once you reserve your spot a registration form will be sent to you to be duly filled with your deposit as soon as we have on the list the minimum required 4 students.

All’aeroporto di Pisa troverete la navetta PeopleMover per il breve tragitto fino alla Stazione Centrale di Pisa, dove potrete comprare il biglietto del treno per Pontremoli sia alle comode biglietterie automatiche che alla biglietteria centrale.

Dopo che vi sarete assicurati un posto per il corso, vi invieremo un modulo di registrazione da compilare accuratamente con il vostro deposito non appena avremo raggiunto il numero minimo di studenti iscritti.

Day 1- Saturday May 13

Giorno 1- Sabato 13 Maggio

Everybody arrives at Pontremoli according to their organized means and at their time. I will be in Pontremoli to greet you at the train station. As a first visit we propose the local museum Museo Delle Stelle (on your own), then a group walking tour in Pontremoli with Suzanne and/or Sabina. We start the evening at 6 pm or so with a welcome apertivo in the historical piazza and we will dine together after that.

È previsto l’arrivo di tutti i partecipanti a Pontremoli secondo i loro piani di viaggio. Io vi accoglierò alla stazione dei treni di Pontremoli. Come prima visita vi proponiamo il piccolo e affascinante Museo delle Statue Stele di Pontremoli (non accompagnati), poi una passeggiata a Pontremoli in gruppo con Suzanne e/o Sabina. Cominceremo la serata intorno alle 6pm con un aperitivo di benvenuto nella storica piazza centrale e dopo andremo a cena insieme.

Morning: Tour of Pontremoli Barrocca with Sigeric Tours. Guided visit of the historical center of Pontremoli with particular attention to its piazzas, historical bridges and the church of San Geminiano and the Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta. You will also have the possibility to visit a private palace of the 1700’s, Palazzo Dosi Magnavacca.

This tour is of approximately 2 hours. Start of tour, 9:30am.

Afternoon: Colour Theory Workshop (optional) (extra fee 75 Euros)

Duration 4 hours. Start of workshop 2:30pm.

Mattino: Tour della Pontremoli Barocca con Sigeric Tours. Visita guidata del centro storico con particolare attenzione alle piazze, i porti storici la chiesa di San Geminiano e il Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta. Avrete anche la possibilità di visitare un palazzo privato del 1700, Palazzo Dosi Magnavacca.

Questo tour dura circa 2h. Inizio alle 9.30am.

Pomeriggio: (optional) Workshop di Teoria del Colore (costo extra 75€).

Full day tour to Cinque Terre with Sigeric Tours. We will all together take the train from Pontremoli to La Spezia where we will meet our guide. We will visit Manarola. Then we will take the train to Monterosso where we will visit the village and will have a quick lunch. In the afternoon we will go to Vernazza. We return by train to La Spezia then to Pontremoli.

Tutta la giornata sarà dedicata al tour delle Cinque Terre con Sigeric Tours. Tutti insieme prenderemo il treno da Pontremoli a La Spezia, dove incontreremo la nostra guida. Da lì visiteremo Manarola, poi prenderemo il treno per Monterosso dove visiteremo il villaggio e faremo un pranzo veloce. Nel pomeriggio andremo a Vernazza. Infine troneremo a Pontremoli in treno via La Spezia.

Morning check-out of Pontremoli

Giorno 8- Sabato 20 Maggio

Al mattino check-out da Pontremoli.

Together we take the train and bus to Carrara. We meet our guide at a tourist meeting point before entering Carrara. Our guide will take us to Fantiscritti, taking the historical Vara bridge, from there we stop at the piazzale of Fantiscritti where we can see the breathtaking view of the marble quarries and the sea.

Guided visit to the cave museum Danesi, and open air museum where you will see the tools used to extract and cut the marble and the Roman method of transporting the marble until this day. Tour also in a 4X4 Jeep which will go up to 1000 meters where you can admire the cave views to the basin of Carrara and onto the sea.

Lunch in the historical center in a local restaurant, Ristorante Roma.

Afternoon visit in the historical center of Carrara with particular attention to the piazzas and the Duomo di Sant’ Andrea.

Insieme prenderemo il treno e poi un autobus per Carrara. Incontreremo la nostra guida al punto d’incontro turistico prima dell’ingresso a Carrara. La nostra guida ci porterà a Fantiscritti, attraversando lo storico ponte di Vara, da lì ci fermeremo al piazzale Fantiscritti dove potremo ammirare la vista mozzafiato dalle cave di marmo fino al mare.

A seguire visita guidata del museo Danesi, un museo all’aperto dove vedrete gli attrezzi tradizionali usati per estrarre e tagliare il marmo e il metodo Romano per trasportare il marmo usato fino ai giorni nostri. Il tour prosegue su jeep 4×4 e ci porterà fino a 1000mt di altitudine da dove ammireremo altri splendidi panorami Apuani, sulle cave del bacino di Carrara e fino al mare.

Pranzo in un ristorante locale situato nel centro storico, Ristorante Roma.

Nel pomeriggio visiteremo il centro storico di Carrara con particolare attenzione alle piazze e al Duomo di Sant’Andrea.

About Sabina:

Sabina Giuntinelli received her diploma as Master Mosaicist at the renowned Spilimbergo Mosaic School in 1998, and since then conjugated her mosaic practice and teaching at all levels.

During 7 years as master Mosaic Lecturer at the Spier Arts Academy she managed students and apprentices teams in the production of medium and large scale projects specializing in the translation of contemporary artworks into mosaic.

She also lectures Mosaic History, Color Theory and Andamento.

She’s currently working as a freelance artisan, her latest collaboration being with Mayer of Munich in 2022, manufacturing Nick Cave and Kiki Smith’s large scale projects for the New York Metro new stations.

Sabina Giuntinelli

Su Sabina:

Sabina Giuntinelli si è diplomata alla Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli di Spilimbergo nel 1998, e da allora ha sempre coniugato l’attività di artigiana mosaicista a quella di insegnante a tutti i livelli.

Durante i 7 anni come insegnante di mosaico alla Spier Arts Academy di Città del Capo, ha formato e guidato squadre di studenti e apprendisti nella produzione di numerose opere di piccole e grandi dimensioni, specializzandosi nella traduzione a mosaico di opere dì artisti contemporanei.

Insegna anche Storia del Mosaico, Teoria del Colore e Andamento.

Attualmente lavora come artigiana freelance, la più recente è la collaborazione con Mayer of Munich nel 2022, per l’esecuzione dei grandi mosaici parietali su design di Nick Cave e di Kiki Smith per le nuove stazioni della New York Metro.
